Bug Description

I'm not convinced this is even a bug but this appears to be the official process for trouble-shooting my problem, according to the "DebuggingSoundProblems" page on the official Ubuntu website. Prior to upgrading to 12.04, my sound work mostly-alright, from the rear panel, though the front-panel didn't work properly at all. After upgrading earlier today, the rear panel is distorted and crappy-sounding, and has a constant whistling sound at a low volume. Nothing in the alsa-mixer looks "too loud", and I don't know where else to look for problems.
