Bug Description

I am using a Thinkpad T410s with a Dell 2711 connected via DisplayPort. Attached to the monitor, there is my speakers that I can use to listen to music that is transmitted via DisplayPort (or HDMI). Starting with Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu can transmit audio via DP.

However, when going into standby - either via inactivity timeout or via closing the lid - I hear horrible sound garbage.

This is quite loud and can possibly damage speakers and/or ears, depending on the sound level of whatever I heard before.

This is still present in quantal. All you need to do to reproduce is send sound via DisplayPort, play some song and send your device to standby (for example by closing the lid).

Note that this issue can be health threatening, if you happen to listen to music via headphone. Also, it can trash speakers.
