Bug Description

After a kernel upgrade to 3.0.0-13-generic, all sound has seized to function ( banshee as well as web browser, speakers as well as headphones). Have tried the troubleshooting specified here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting) without any luck. All sound applications are reporting that all is well in the system, functioning drivers et cetera, but no sound.

Amendment: Issue seems to be related to USB speakers ONLY, headphones (connected to 3.5mm audio port) are working fine. Several applications (banshee, browser (firefox), Front Center) are now producing sound, but only in headphones.

Hello erick
can you please type in a terminal
alsamixer and verify that all the sliders are at a reasonable level?

Thanks

Looks like a driver/kernel(usb) issue, because your usb headset does
not appear at all.

In alsamixer, the slider marked MM was set to zero, but increasing it did not solve the issue.

Sorry for the confusion, only the speakers are USB, the headphones are 3.5mm.

Again, sorry for the confusion, this is my first bug report. The slider was for Front Mic, but unlike all the other sliders (which are marked 00), this is marked MM. Don't know if that's relevant.

New info: My computer has two 3.5 speaker jacks. I have a 2.0 speaker system with USB for power connected to one of the jacks. A pair of headphones are connected to the other jack. I have both devices connected daily and adjust volumes to switch from one to the other device.

It seems that after the upgrade, I can't have both devices connected. When I unplug the headphones, I get sound in the speakers, but it disappears when plugging in the headpghones again. While the actual problem persists, the workaround (switching between plugged/unplugged headphones) is simple enough that I consider this issue solved as far as I am concerned.
