Hi, I'm trying to get to the bottom of this problem, but I can't replicate it myself. Could you help me with the following:

 * Indicate whether this always happens, or whether the problem comes and goes between reboots or perhaps between logging out and logging in?

 * When sound is not working, "aplay -l" returns "no soundcards found". But does "sudo aplay -l" give the same result, or will sound cards show up?

 * Some people have reported switching to gdm from LightDM resolves the problem. Is this helping you as well?

@Ivan serra, thanks - could you please attach an alsa-info as well? (See http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo )

Also, you say "switched from LightDM to GDM no fixed the problem for me"
Does this mean that it works or does not work with GDM?

@Ivan, thanks. From your bug is different from the original reporter - in your case, your problem is that the snd-hda-intel module is not loaded. What is the result of "sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel"?

Hi,

sorry for the lack of update from me, but it seems my problem has disappeared.

I can't reproduce it.

The sound card is now correctly detected at each boot. I'm using the standard LightDM (the new logon screen) and neither with unity or gnome 3 has the pb occurred anymore.

So for me, this bug report can be closed.

Thank you.

@Ivan, you don't need the alsa-source package, please uninstall it.

Instead try reinstalling linux-image-3.0.0-12-generic-pae package to see if that makes the /lib/modules/3.0.0-12-generic-pae/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko
file show up again.
