I followed the link to the page but it said that it does not exist yet. Went to the Alsa upgrade section and added the Ubuntu Audio Dev Team PPA. My Kernel version is 2.6.38-11-generic, but the dev team upgrades only go up to 2.6.38-10-generic, so is there nothing to upgrade to?

I have just reinstalled Ubuntu, but the 64bit instead of the 32bit to see if this would make a difference but the problem still exists

In the latest set of updates automute now works in Ubuntu 11.10 on this system. This bug is no longer an issue.
