Bug Description

when I first did a clean install of Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 my usb microphone (Microsoft) was recognised right away and worked flawlessly. (front panel) I then removed usb mike and plugged in patch cord to my stereo receiver. No sound at all. I know this isn't a hardware problem since windows works perfectly. (I triple boot: Windows 7 pro_64 and Windows XP Pro. with Ubuntu).
I tried several fixes suggested in Ubuntu forums with no luck.

Please substitute 'microphone' and 'mike' for: headphone-microphone combo.

SOLVED-this solution worked for me:sound stopped working ubuntu 10.04 en1370-I added this:
(options snd-hda-intel model=generic) I had previously added: (options snd-hda-intel model=auto) with no results.
    Ubuntu
    “alsa-driver” package

Try adding:

"options snd-hda-intel model=auto
or
options snd-hda-intel model=generic

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

reboot to test in between. Also you may want to run:

alsamixer

and ensure all levels are cranked and unmuted."

Do both playback and capture work as expected?

No-the analog microphone doesn't work, thank you for calling this to my
attention as I normally just my usb headset. Alsamixer settings are normal.

Daniel-looks like I have a hardware problem-maybe a loose microphone
jack wire.
