[CMI8738 - C-Media CMI8738, playback] No sound at all

I'm new to Linux.

After upgrading to 11.04 from 10.10, the sound was working for the 1st few days. Then 2 days ago, no more sound is heard while playing audio cd or mp3. However, when OS starts up or shuts down, there is sound. There is also sound when test speaker. There is just no sound when Banshee or Rhythmbox or other media player is playing.

Please help.
