exactly as stated below, but when I add the option it doesn't work for me.

Bug Description

Hi, I installed Ubuntu 10.10 64bit in a Toshiba Satellite C650-110 with the following espefications

Satellite C650-110
Part Number : PSC08E-00G001EN
Key Features
- Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery)
- Intel® Celeron® Processor T3300
- DVD-RW SuperMulti drive (Double Layer)
- 4096 MB (2048 +204 DDR2 RAM (800MHZ)
- 39.6cm (15.6") TruBrite® HD (1366 x 76 High Brightness display with LED backlight with 16:9 aspect ratio

Everything seems to work fine but the headphones plug, there is not sound through it and the speakers keep working when I plug in the headphones.

The microphone plug nor the built-in microphone are working either and the same with the web cam. And I can't play DVD movies, I can play videos on youtube or if the video is on my HD there is no problem, but with DVDs it doesn't work.

Besides this I don't have support for multiple displays, I can't plug the laptop into the TV.

I have been searching in Google for solutions since yesterday and no luck.

I appreciate any help that you can give me, because if I can't fix this issues I would have to go back to use Windows again... which I would prefer not to!

Kind regards.

I have noticed when I boot the system I see a message for just a second. I don't know how to stop the boot process from continuing so I can read the message, but I believe it says in part "shpchp" and "cannot reserve mmio area". You probably already expected that but there it is.
Also, I am not sure I am adding the option line correctly. I am able to edit the file, but is there a certain place in the file the new line belongs? I added to the bottom of the other option lines already in the file. Do I need to leave some spaces between them? Or include any other symbols or characters?

I really do appreciate any help you can give me. After years of using a closed source system, I am very excited about learning how an operating system actually works. I especially like it when no billionaire is making more money from me.
Thank you all very much.

Please remove the model=auto line that you added. The existing quirk
should already be sufficient:

3027 SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x1179, 0xff1e, "Toshiba Satellite C650D",
CXT5066_IDEAPAD),

I removed it already. What does the quirk mean?

Did you remove the quirk and reboot? If so, your alsa-info.sh upload
still shows the model quirk being used (for BIOS autoprobing).

ok I removed the "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" line from /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. I then added "options snd-hda-intel model=ideapad" . That appears to have fixed it.
I'll get back to you if I find it isn't fixed, but so far it seems to work great.
Thank you for the help.

The ideapad quirk should already be enabled for your hardware, i.e.,
you shouldn't need to add anything. Does the hardware appear to work
correctly if you remove the model quirk that you added (and after a
reboot)?

No it doesn't work unless I keep the ideapad quirk.

Hi gwade61, when recording and jack sense is not working, what is the output of "cat /proc/interrupts"? I'm asking because I'm suspecting it might be the same HDA controller failure as I'm facing in bug 741825.
