Bug Description

Have a new build with an ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard. Upon first install of 10.10 everything worked fine for about a week. Turned on one day and there was no sound. Nothing was muted, speakers worked, etc. Installed XP on system, and after installing sound drivers sound worked on XP. Reinstalled linux and sound worked again. Worked for 2-3 weeks but once again I have no audio. Have tried uninstalling ALSA, installing it again and a couple other things I have read around on the internet including following the directions here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules , to no avail. Have kernal Linux 2.6.35-23-generic.

I should add that neither the audio jacks on the back of my computer or the headphone jack work, but HDMI audio does work.

I have the same hardware as you and had the same problem.

While trying to fix it, I toggled the pulse output from HDMI to internal audio back and forth a couple of time and it suddenly started to work again. I have no idea why, but it works for me now.

I have not found a work around, but I didn't use my computer for 2 weeks and when I turned it on for the first time the sound was working again..... I have no idea what is going on. I'm waiting for it to cut out on me again.

I'm not sure which of the two reports should be marked as a duplicate of the other though.

RE: no sound after HD disable/enable

Had the same problem, in my case there was two output devices in Sound Preferences:

* Internal audio analog stereo
* RS880 Digital Stereo (HDMI) - this was checked by default

I switched to the first and sound back to work.

Thanks.

I have an integrated audio (Realtek ALC892 Audio Codec) on a Asrock 880GXH.

If i set in phonon:

- "Internal Audio" > "Analog Stereo Duplex" i can only hear audio in passthrought (Dolby Digital and DTS)

- "Internal Audio" > "Digital Stero Duplex " i can hear all "normal" sound but no passthrought (Dolby Digital and DTS)

Ubuntu 11.04 32bit, Kernel 2.6.38-11

I'm also having issues with the motherboard indicated by the OP under Maverick. It was working fine until ~2-3 weeks ago, and I've never heard my PC make a sound since then.
