Bug Description

When I plug in my headphones the external speakers won't mute automatically. Instead of muting the speakers the sound comes from both headphones and external speakers.
If I go to sound preferences and select connector "Analog headphones" (instead of Analog output) it mutes both speakers and headphones.

That guide is not up to date. Or at least my Maverick won't find package linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) when uname -r says 2.6.35-23-generic.
However, I do have linux-backports-modules-alsa-maverick-generic installed (not sure was it when I reported the bug).

I didn't mention this in the first comment but I've had this problem for years. Just decided to report it now. Anyway, the problem has been present for a long long time and I've tried to install those linux-alsa-driver-modules many times for multiple kernel versions. And always the same result: nothing changes (sound comes from headphones and speakers).

If I remember correctly I've also tried to modify alsa-base.conf few times with these instructions https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto but never got it to function any better.

Anyway, what should I do to get you the information you need?

Just realized my kernel is from maverick-proposed. So that explains the guide not working as it should.
Anyway, do I need to switch to -22?

Sorry for spamming.

Yes, and you definitely don't want the linux-backports-modules-alsa* package(s) installed if you're intending to use linux-alsa-driver-modules.

Okay, nothing changed with -22 and linux-alsa-driver-modules. Now -23 is out of proposed and I installed linux-alsa-driver-modules for it too and still no change: audio comes from both speakers and headphones and choosing analog headphones mutes both speakers and headphones.
I reckon you guys need apport-collect again, so I'll do it.
