Bug Description

Sounds was working fine in 10.04. Upgrade to 10.10 broke sound (amongst other things). Installed all updates as of today and still no joy (13/Nov/2010). Have now tried running from Live CD and sound also doesn't work. Sound properties in gnome show no sound cards, as does the "System Testing" application. dmesg shows no sign of trying to load sound.

I have the same card, struggling to get it to work after installing 12.04. Found a solution here that worked:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/703464

Open this file:

/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

And add this line to the bottom:

options snd-hda-intel model=generic

Restart the computer. Hope this helps.
