Bug Description

I'm using an Asus K50IJ and I cannot mute the internal speaker when I'm using headphone.
When I plug in the jack the sound mutes completely, so I must re enable the sound, but doing so enables both internal speaker and headphone. I think there is something wrong with alsa driver, because if I run "alsamixer" I can see an "Headphone" slider, but it's disabled, so it's impossible to control the headphone even from console...

I'm using Maverick.

Thank you for the tip!
I've installed the latest alsa modules following the guide, but the problem is still present; but I've noticed that now if plug the jack and then switch the output from "Analog output" to "Analog Headphone" I can hear a very weak sound from the headphones (and nothing from the internal speaker)...
There is something else I should try? Or we should forward the bug upstream?

P:S. in alsamixer the headphone slider is still disabled

I have exactly the same problem and am attempting to acquire a solution form Canonical Support. Will post here if successful.

James, please make sure to file a separate bug report using "ubuntu-bug
alsa-base", thanks.

Daniel, may I ask for what reason? Admittedly, I have not posted on the Launchpad before, but would it not be simpler to concentrate all efforts towards a resolution in this one location?

James, the reason is that the description given by the original reporter is
too broad. Your actual controller and codec may very well differ, in which
case you need to file a separate bug report.
