Unfortunately the X-Fi series of cards are not very well supported under Linux. To get a better idea of which X-Fi you have, could you please run "apport-collect 635496" in a terminal. Different X-Fi cards have different chips, so learning more about the exact card via the apport-collect command may help.

You might also want to update your alsa drivers, as outlined here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules. This may or may not improve audio via the X-Fi.

Hope this helps

According to the data that was uploaded to the bug, only the onboard AC97 VIA sound card is seen. Tis is not entirely surprising, since X-Fi support in Linux is not that good yet. You can try updating to the latest alsa drivers, as outlined here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules.

Please report back as to whether this helps.
