Comment 20 for bug 632046

I am experiencing the identical situation with my Panasonic CF-F8 - no sound thru external speakers, but the headphones work. I see this with Ubuntu 10.10 and Fedora 14. Makes me think this may not be an Ubuntu specific bug.

I am seeing a boot message referencing a 'broken BIOS'. So, I tried to update the BIOS. No luck finding a BIOS update. I contacted Panasonic and was told that all BIOS updates are done at the Panasonic service center and cost $130 + shipping and taxes. I'm looking for alternatives.
