Hi chori,
thanks for reporting this bug. Your Ubuntu version, Jaunty, is about to be unsupported, so I wonder if this is also a problem in the most current version of ubuntu?
(Also try removing ~/.asoundrc and ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf and see if that helps.)

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates. If this is still an issue on a maintained version of Ubuntu please let us know.
