Bug Description

Hello,
I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04 and there is no sound in the front jack. The sound works fine in the back jack.

The problem is that the front jack works fine from the live CD. I have done some tests, and all the sound modules (snd*) are the same in the live CD and in the installed version, all the parameters (modinfo) are the same too, but the front jack only works in the Live CD.

The only difference that I see from the live version from the installed one, is that the live version has some modules that are not loaded in the installed version. They are: aufs, dm_crypt, dm_raid45, drm, drm_kms_helper, fat, isofs, nls_cp437, nls_iso8859_1, nouveau, squashfs, ttm, vfat, xor. But I think that these modules are not related to sound issues.

The installed version has the nvidea module, but the sound also wasn't working before the installation of the nvidea driver.

My motherboard is asus M2N68. This problem occurs not only with the 2.6.32-23-generic kernel but also with the 2.6.32-21-generic kernel (the live version uses the 2.6.32-21 version)

The output of the alsa-info.sh script can be found in:
Live version: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=1fb4ce3c69fa0d7e6c046d6acbd164bd2c536000
Installed version: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=b5d080eb46cff9f63c2a302d69ca86ff095ad4bb

I can send more information to investigate this bug.

Cheers,
Pedro

Have you tried changing the setting for the connecter in the output tab of the volume control preferences? Go to the sound menu, choose sound preferences, and click on the output tab. You will find the drop down option select for the connecter. Try changing this to another option, if available.

Please report back as to whether this solves your issue.

Thanks

I have tested in the Live and in the Installed versions.

If I set the output in the output tab from the sound preferences to "analog output", in the live version the sound is played in both connectors (front and back), but in the installed only in the back. If I set the value to "analog headphones", in the live version the sound is played only in the front connector, but in the installed version, there is no sound in both connectors.

I've also changed the field profile in the hardware tab. The result is the same for "analog stereo duplex" or "analog stereo output"
