Now hardware is not even found, nothing to configure.
Nothing listed under input and under output there is a listing called Dummy Output Stereo.

Daniel, Attached is the alsa-info output as provided to me by Enrique.

@David Bensimon: Given your alsa-info output, have a look at /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, to make sure there isn't something looking like this:

snd-hda-intel: model=3stack alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intelgksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
snd-hda-intel: model=3stack d above generic modules

...which is obviously very wrong.

I also have only headphone output (no internal speakers) on touchsmart 600-1005xt using alc888 codec on nvidia mcp79/A controller. Have tried every Ubuntu distribution from 8.04 - 10.04 with same results & most of the alsa-base.conf model flags under the 888 section. Also, I like carrots...

@David Henningsson - Thanks for noticing that. I have provided Enrique with the standard alsa-base.conf file and we are back to sound through speakers only. Please feel free to recommend any module options that may also enable the speakers on this laptop.

@Daniel T Chen - Ubuntu Audio Dev PPA packages are installed. Could you recommend any module options that may also enable the speakers on this laptop. If anything else is needed from Enrique to diagnose the issue, please let us know.

@ajstrobus - Since you can reproduce the issue, feel free to change the status of the bug to Confirmed. If you have reported this issue in any other bug, question or forum post, please let us know the addresses.

@David Bensimon - My bug link https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/597056 I think they're both from badly maped ports / pins / (nodeid's) from hp's bios. although different chipsets, don't know how to confirm correct nodeid's for internal speakers though, sum1 help plz.

@Enrique - I've read that model=touchsmart or model =mobile works on that model then checking mixer levels with alsamixer from terminal.

@spongebobsquarepants - i luv pickles.

I have two touchsmarts, an 846 and a 300 and I got the speakers working by just adding this line to the alsa-base.conf
file: options snd-hda-intel model=mobile

yah I thought i heard someone with a 300 series working with model=mobile, I wish they had a working model for the 600 series, they won't even reply to the bug on possible causes, if I had an idea where to start poking around in the source code I may just be able to help the dev's out but no reply.

Hi, I am Daniele Valtorta.

I have the same problem (no sound through the speakers) with a Compaq PC with ubuntu 64 bit. Adding the line "options snd-hda-intel model=mobile" or touchsmart doesn't fix the issue.

@Daniele, As I can't tell from your information whether you have the same hardware or not, could you please file a separate bug using the "ubuntu-bug audio" command? Thanks!
