Bug Description

On every boot sound is inaudible due to the "Speaker" volume (configurable in alsamixer) being reset to 0. I am not sure whether this is pulseaudio's or ALSA's fault. When I raise the volume on the "Speaker" control, stereo playback works fine.

This system is upgraded from Karmic, where if I remember correctly, this "Speaker" mixer did not exist - this may be related to the bug.

I also assume this might be related to Bug #410446, although I have not yet investigated that.

In GNOME sound preferences, do you have an "Analog Speakers" choice in the Connector dropdown menu of the Output tab? Does choosing that option resolve the symptom?
