Please try installing linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.32-17-generic from the ubuntu-audio-dev PPA http://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive and reboot. Please test to see if your problem still exists, and report back with the results.

Thanks.

I only see linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.32 (version 2.6.32-16.201003230600).

Nice job, indeed! Fix is released, however my mic is not working. My card has been a victim of pulseaudio, which I had to remove with every upgrade. It seems to be more stable than it used to. However, I cannot use linphone and/or record sound.
I am on a newer kernel than the version #.*17.

Well, adding ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa did not help. After the reboot none of the audio inputs work. In the pavucontrol the inputs have a "red cross" symbol.
The whole pulseaudio business is aggravating! It just does not work for my card that HAS BEEN WORKING flawlessly with alsa and without pulseaudio before!!!

Is it supposed to be version 17? And none of the higher versions work?

The version 22 does not let me use the microphone. Although there is some noise coming out when trying to record and play.
It is ridiculous, I should now seriously consider purging pulseaudio from my system once again!

gene, do you have a separate bug report?

Daniel,
No I don't why do I have to get a separate one? I got the same card. As I said there might only one solution for me - to completely remove the failing sound system. I am informed about the problems it will incur, I had ekiga hang-up on me, but it was no useless as it is without a working mic.... So looking forward to this

I changed to confirmed, since the "fix" does not fix it for me

Gene, does your /proc/asound/card*/codec* match the reporter's?

Here's another bug experience: I just found out that my output sound works only for headphones. No matter what I do in alsamixer, I do not get sound coming out of the internal speaker. ( pavucontrol is useless pretty much) It could have happened just recently when picked up the source from that dev sound ppa.

Again, sorry for an off-topic comment:
I see that pulseaudio in top consumes almost the same amount of cpu as mplayer playing an internet stream. What does pulseaudio do? It stays on the way of pretty much any application that needs to access the sound card. I am happy that it works for most of the cards. What I ask for is an alternative.
Sigh, qui vivre verra how it goes...
