Bug Description

Command : "cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* |grep Codec" gives
Codec: Realtek ALC269
Codec: Intel G45 DEVIBX

2.6.32-15-generic

alsa-base:
  Installed: 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3

I have installed Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 Alpha3 on my Sony Vaio VPCEB1j1e and i don't have sound. I insert line "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" in file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. I also tried "options snd-hda-intel model=vaio" but no luck.
I tried kernel 2.6.33 but no luck.
I tried to play a .ogv video with mplayer and i am getting : bt_audio_service_open: connect() failed: Connection refused (111)

i installed linux-alsa-driver-modules, but didn't change anything.
I attach alsa-info, if there is any help.

Remove your model=auto quirk.

Also, mute 'IEC958' using amixer/alsamixer.

I reinstall Lucid, to have a clean start. I only change the line options snd-hda-intel in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf .
Now there is not 'IEC958' in mixer to mute.
I attach the alsa-info.

Both of your IEC958 controls are unmuted still. (They're marked S/PDIF in alsamixer.)

I had the same problem in Ubuntu Lucid on a Sony VAIO VPCEB1M1E.

I've run hda-analyzer, and under Node[0x19] PIN, changed Widget Control VREF from 80 to HIZ. Problem solved, sound restored.

However, running hda-analyzer and clicking through that every time is somewhat laborious, so I've downloaded the hda-verb utility, compiled it, and added a script to rc.local to invoke it this way:

/PATH/TO/hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x19 SET_PIN_WIDGET_CONTROL 0x60

0x60 is the code for the constant VREF_HIZ.

This is probably a dupe of bug 445889.

Installing test package http://people.canonical.com/~diwic/temp/alsa-intel-hda-optiplex-dkms_1.0.23_all.deb solves the problem more permanently between reboots (but it apparently requires reinstalling after each kernel update).
