Bug Description
Hello everyone!
I'm annoyed because after doing a fresh installation of Ubuntu Karmic (9.10) I do not have any sound on my laptop.
What makes me so angry? It always worked without any problems since I had my computer (since Ubuntu 8.04). Now it doesn't! What's going on?
My sound card is (lspci -vv):
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: Gateway 2000 Device 0366
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B- DisINTx-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-
Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 64 bytes
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 22
Region 0: Memory at d8240000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel
aplay -l gives:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 6: Si3054 Modem [Si3054 Modem]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
I've done some experiment and made some changes in /etc/modprobe.
commented out last line as shown below:
# Power down HDA controllers after 10 idle seconds
# options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_
Now I am able to play sounds.
Does it really need to happen? Couldn't it just work as in previous Ubuntu versions?
