Hi, thank you for your help.
I have already tried to turn up all the volume settings, but have only some static as the result.
But as for this two controls:

don't know where and how to set them. In Alsamixer I've got this two entries, but can not choose any value, just check or un-check them. Don't know where to look.

Michele

Use a Terminal, e.g.,

amixer set 'Input Source',0 'Int Mic'
amixer set 'Input Source',1 'Int Mic'

Michele Falappi (nittalope) wrote :

Set Input Source 0 as Int Mic as you told me. Sorry, I was a Windows user so I don't know all that well terminal commands. Think that there should be a GUI for this, but this is not the problem. Still the internal mic does not to work. I've done a few tests.

I turned up the volume levels to the maximum (in AlsaMixer and checking the result also in termina): Line In, Mic, Mic Boost, Capture 0, Capture 1. I hear the static (that's the mic boost), but no signal at all in Sound Preferences /Input tab or PulseAudio Volume Control or PulseAudio Volume Meter.
Input Source 0 is Int Mic, Input Source 1 is Ext Mic.
I tuned Mic Boost to 30% just to cut the static.
Connected my Logitech external webcam, it appears in Sound Preferences/Input tab. Choose it and everything works smooth. Then I choose again Internal Audio Analog Stereo and some signal appear. But in PulseAudio Volume Contro and PulseAudio Volume Meter still no signal at all, so I think it's just and error in the Sound Preferences.
If I disconnect the webcam, again no signal at all.

Sorry, that's the only think that's not working and I'm quite sure is a common problem to Acer Aspire users (already checked the forums and followed a lot of 'solutions').
Thank for your help, meanwhile.

Hi Michele,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 478867

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your help, Brad, now I'll try these out.
But first: which of the development release should I use? The 10.04, the one in 9.10 or the Karmic/Lucid one? I'll try to install the 10.04 in a new partition, then if it's something else just let me know.
Then I'll test the new kernel too, but just give me one or two week. I'll update this post when I've got some news.
Thank you again.

Michele

Ok, as you see I've installed and tested the 10.04 (by the way, really really nice, I'll love it!). But nothing's changed.
After the apport-collect in terminal I've also installed padevchooser and tried something more, but the mic still remains mute. It's really sad... I've bought a Acer Aspire58something for my father and that's working smooth... it has got the intel cpu, maybe is something correlated to this?
Well, now I'll try the upstream kernell...
See you...

Michele, please check the volume settings for your mic boost (maximize it)
and capture sources; they do not correspond to levels that would result in
audible capture.
