Bug Description

Hi,
Since upgrade to Karmic (I think near RC stage) I lost sound in built-in speakers. Desperately I dd'ed my partitions on HD and made fresh install of Karmic: still no sound. However I can hear sound through headphones jack, and it's clear, loud and of good quality.
My chipset is:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)

If you have the sl-modem-daemon package installed, please deinstall it

Barring that, please (also) install
linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic, reboot, then use

I've the same bug in my Panasonic CF-W5 laptop that has SIgmatTel STAC9200, i.e., no sound from internal speakers, but headphones work fine.

$ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
Codec: SigmaTel STAC9200
Codec: Conexant ID 2bfa

I don't have sl-modem-daemon package installed. I installed linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic and rebooted, but no difference.

If you need the information, I can also do "apport-collect -p alsa-base 471208".

Hi Tomasz,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 471208

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.
