The problem is still occurring with 2.6.32-21 kernel. As soon as I try to adjust the input, for example microphone level, by dragging the slider, the device disappears and from then on only "Dummy" appears in the sound applet. I've done the apport-collect procedure as requested.

Just tested with the latest mainline kernel (2.6.34-020634rc4-generic dated Tue Apr 13 21:49:57 UTC 2010) The problem doesn't occur with this kernel. I can drag the slider and reset other options and the device remains active.
