Bug Description

To begin with I only had stereo output. When using alsamixer to change volumes, I can get 5.1 sound output. But no matter what I try, it doesn't seem possible to get my mic recording anything. Other than the mic, everything seems to be working now. In Windows 7 - everything is working great, checked and double-checked.

Hi Garyu,

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 465812

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Same problem here, I cannot do any testing on it currently though as I took the soundcard out temporarily so I can use the internal sound and at least use Skype. I'm on Lucid with Kernel 2.6.32-22-generic, this was also an issue in Karmic if that matters.

It just came to my attention that the mic starts working after you come back from Suspend. It breaks again after a warm or cold (re)boot.

By the way as far as I know, lubuntu comes without pulseaudio, so might be good to test by it just for alsa bugs.
