Filing as per Daniel Chen's request at https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-discuss/2009-May/008239.html.

Not sure how to tell if it's been filed for my hardware already. Running an HP 530 laptop. Clicking sound whenever sound card powers up or down.

In the meantime you can work around the symptom by commenting out the
options snd-hda-intel line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
