Bug Description

I have updated to latest alsa (1.0.21) to attempt to fix this but to no avail. I am using ubuntu 9.04. The internal mic does not work at all and the speakers don't mute when headphones are plugged in(sond comes from headphones and speakers simultaneously. I have also reported this problem directly to alsa via their bug tracker.

1.0.21 is insufficient; you need to test the latest stable alsa-driver
snapshot.

I seem to have finally gotten this sorted with a fresh install of 9.10 and removing pulseaudio using. http://n2.nabble.com/Re-Ubuntu-s-switch-to-pulseaudio-broke-accessibility-for-the-blind-td3886061.html
Well some of it anyway I just used step 1 eradicating the evil. Jack sense now works allong with the internal mic.
