That sounds like a hardware problem to me. The headphone jacks are usually wired to take over from the speakers. Does it happen on any other OS? |

Sounds like you've got the problem solved then. Plugging the headphones in correctly mutes the speakers now?
Should that option be enabled by default for the HP Pavilion zv5421EA then? |

I think this is enough information to mark the bug confirmed. I'm also changing the affected package to linux-source-2.6.17 because it appears in Edgy Beta.
Thank you for the bug report, hopefully it will be resolved soon. It's in the hands of the kernel team now. |

Turns out this belongs in alsa-driver. Can you still confirm this issue with a feisty livecd?
If so, please provide the information requested at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSoundProblems in separate attachments. Thanks |

I'm sorry your laptop got stolen! Let us know if you ever see this problem again, though, and continue reporting bugs so they can get fixed.
Thanks for your contribution to Ubuntu. |

Plugging headphone on my laptop zv5421ea doesn't desactivate the sound of the baffles.
It is a very annoying problem when you want to hear music in public places (train, etc). |
