Bug Description
I have, I believe, a built-in Intel sound card. I run 8.04 (uname -a shows: Linux dell-sam-4u 2.6.24-23-generic #1 SMP Mon Jan 26 00:13:11 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux).
We don't use the sound very often, so I can't be exactly sure when it disappeared. But, it just stopped working sometime in the last couple of months. I accept the recommended auto-updates when I use the system, so can't say which one broke the sound.
The hardware is fine. The Dell has Windows XP on as well, and it is still making sounds fine.
I've read many posts and tried various things but to no avail.

Please let me know if I can supply any other info, or if there's something else I can try.
Cheers

Hi Peter,
Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http:// cdimage. ubuntu. com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications- >Accessories- >Terminal) . It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.
apport-collect -p alsa-base 335938
Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds .
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream- testing' text.
Please let us know your results.
