On IBM Thinkpad T40 series, the Headphone Jack and/or Line Jack inputs need to be muted in order to hear sound at all.

Bug Description
The title was: very quiet sound on notebook IBM r40e
in mixer I move all regulators to 100% and when hear very quiet sound. hardware volume keys don't work too.

There were a few bugs the past days about missing sound. Just by chance:
Can you enable sound again by setting PCM in "alsamixer -Dhw" to 100 or so?
