Bug Description
Audio capture isn't enabled by default, at least when using the snd_intel8x0
module.
The OSS driver seam to work flawlessly, skype captures audio via an microphone
without problem. To capture audio wie the GNOME recorder it was needed to
activate capturing via:
amixer sset Capture cap
It is not possible to set this via a graphical utitliy, please make this either
available by default or provide a button in the alsamixer gui.

I have similar problems with the same driver (snd_intel8x0) and integrated sound of the nforce2 chipset. The "amixer sset Capture cap" command did nothing for me and I am still unable to capture sound using ALSA though I can record using audacity and OSS. recorder gives the following errors:
Gnome-sound-
