I am still seeing this bug. I have just installed maverick (10.10) with the following kernel... # uname -a Linux cerebellum 2.6.35-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 21 17:40:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux When I run the "Sound Preferences" applet, the hardware profiles available do not list "Digital 5.1 output" or something to that effect. My motherboard is Asus P5E3 which does have the ADIĀ® AD1988B 8-channel High Definition Audio CODEC. Here is the output from "lspci -vnn"... 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:293e] (rev 02) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
