This bug also affects me (same laptop, ubuntu 19.10).
Headphones works but sound is quality is low compared to Windows.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme 2018 which has the same Realtek ALC285 speaker, seems to work fine on Arch, status is "working" on their wiki : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Lenovo_ThinkPad_X1_Extreme

Thank you

Hi all,
I've freshly installed Ubuntu Mate 20.04 on LENOVO_MT_81NX_BU_idea_FM_Yoga S740-15IRH with the same problem. No sound no speakers. It seems the Realtek codec driver is not able to configure the speaker for the system.

Hei,
After upgrading from ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04 the problem remains. In sound settings I can see bar going up and down due to the voice in a video, but still cannot hear anything. Got sound with bluetooth headset in 19.10. That still works in 20.04 but seems to drop off more often (probably bluetooth related problem)

I have the same bug with a HP Spectre X360 15-eb0024ng

Already tried to change options in alsa-config:

/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

options snd-hda-intel model=auto
and
options snd-hda-intel model=alc295-hp-x360

Still no sound at the speaker. Headset and internal micro working

I think it is "just" an error setting the correct output device.

There is a patch now that is expected to be in kernel version 5.13.

If you're willing to build your own kernel, you can find the patch here and do it yourself:

That's awesome !
I can confirm that your patch works on Ubuntu 20.04. I can finally enjoy fully functional Linux on my laptop (Lenovo S740 15").
Thank you so much !
