Bug Description

Since upgrade to 15.04 from 14.10, the physical volume keys (mute, up, down) on my ThinkPad X60 have no effect. I can adjust the volume via the menubar indicator, but the buttons are dead.

this mean bug in
volume_set_software_mute() since software_mute=Y and still have ec console

you have to file upstream ThinkPad acpi bug report

do you mean specify software_mute=N does not works as fallback?

Ubuntu 15.04 (vivid) reached end-of-life on February 4, 2016.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling us which new version it is in and change the bug status to Confirmed.

The bug still affects me on 18.04.3 LTS.
I do not seem to have access to change to Confirmed.
