Seems I have the same or similar problem. See my post in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/238161

How can I do the 'hda-jack-sense-test' and what is the text below the statement of jack detection in previous answer? (how to use it?)

just plug in headphone and run the test

the value returned yes for the node

repeat the test with the Mic plugged in

in theory, you have to find out the missing node of the speaker by trial and error with hda-jack-retask those unconnected pin complex with pin cap support output to speaker one at a time

but some time you need to trigger those gpio

Thanks Raymond. Took me a while to figure out how to install the app package etc. because I'm total n00b. At least I'm trying.

The output of hda-jack-sense-test is:
~$ hda-jack-sense-test
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/hda-jack-sense-test", line 47, in <module>
    codec = HDACodec(cardindex, codecindex)
  File "/usr/share/snd-hda-tools/hda_codec.py", line 1023, in __init__
    self.fd = os.open("/dev/snd/hwC%sD%s" % (card, device), os.O_RDWR)
OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/dev/snd/hwC0D0'

used sudo command for this but this returns no output...

The output of 'hda-jack-retask' is: (obviously not in package or I do not have required skill to find the place or mean to run it)
~$ hda-jack-retask
hda-jack-retask: command not found

I also tried this: sudo hda_analyzer
this brings some nice ui in which I switched everything possible. I'm not sure if it changes any values on HW in run-time as I heard no change while manipulating with various switches. I had a youtube video running in the background.

I'd love to have more input on what I should do next. Especially to make the retask command/app work for me.

The text files you supplied likely need someone more skilled than I am to find them useful :(

Any other help would be very appreciated.

Brilliant you still pursue this after all this time. My laptop sadly died just last week, but at 14 years of age and a life that included 2-3 years rough gaming by an enthusiastic teenager I reckon that's not bad.
For a long time I used a workaround by buying a USB sound card which worked perfectly but it did have 18.04 installed on it and that didn't work either, though it had progressed by identifying the onboard sound card correctly without any fiddling with user configuration files, so that was progress of a sort. But despite knowing what was there it still seemed unable to identify it as a source in use.
It was all a bit weird as in every other way the laptop flourished with my move to Linux and became a goto device for testing out any other problems I came across.
Whether it's worth still pursuing is debateable. The laptop models are all pretty elderly and the workaround is straightforward at a pretty small expense. I certainly wouldn't feel let down if you abandoned the search at this point and appreciate you sticking with it for so long.

 Hi Marcus,Many thanks for the alert. I've added a post to the Launchpad thread so won't  do a big repeat here but sufficient to say it was still unable to produce sound using Ubuntu 18.04. Sadly it died just last week and at 14 years of age  lazarus is an unexpected event for it. The workaround for no sound was also pretty simple with a USB sound card which aways worked perfectly for not too much money.
I can't see that more work on this is really justified. It seems to apply just to the Philips models which I don't think were produced for all that long so the law of diminishing returns is well and truly engaged with it.I was though rather touched to get your message and humbled that you and your colleagues were still keeping my original post in mind over 6 years after I wrote. Thank you for all that attention and thank you once again for the alert.
Philip
