Bug Description

Binary package hint: alpine

The alpine package doesn't support Maildir out of the box, but on the webpage [*] there are patches which implement it for different alpine versions.

Please someone apply it and get it to the Ubuntu repos.
This was observed on Ubuntu Hardy LTS Server. No idea about other versions.

Thanks for the bug. We're tracking this in Debian as http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=405762

Eduardo Chappa doesn't allow Debian or Ubuntu to ship his patch.

I'm working with people on an alternate Maildir patch. I'll have an update for you about that in a few weeks.

Any news on the new patch? We really need this Alpine + maildir thing sorted out.

I got the patched version for hardy in my PPA.
I'll try to keep it updated for every new build Ubuntu brings.

Just keep in mind that said PPA is violating Eduardo Chappa's copyright,
and he will ask you to take it down once he finds out about it.

Sorry to be slow to update. There's no news on the Maildir patch rewrite
yet. If someone knows C and wants to help by writing a decent Maildir
patch for Alpine, I have specs I can share with you that can help you get
started.

I manually treated rejections and succeeded to build the package.
My PPA: https://edge.launchpad.net/~sushkov/+archive/ppa

Patch is under "essentially the _modified_ BSD license or X11 license",
so it makes sense to be improved and get included into further builds.
It looks bad, but it works, screenshot attached :)

My apologize but it seems that the patch wasn't applied in previous build.
Working on in now.

Note that someone who appears to be Prof. Chappa is distributing the Alpine source code with his patches ready-applied, under the Apache licence, at <https://alpineapp.email/alpine/info/all.html>. Does that solve the problem?
