FTBFS on ppc64el with go 1.16

Bug Description

Currently, this package will FTBFS on ppc64el when building with go 1.16.
This looks as follows:
go build fmt: /usr/lib/go-1.16/pkg/tool/linux_ppc64le/compile: signal: segmentation fault (core dumped)

The failing package seems inconsistent - other packages I've seen fail include 'net' and 'runtime' and 'github.com/prometheus/common/model'.

go 1.17 seems to not segfault on this compile step, based on the binary release at https://golang.org/dl/go1.17.linux-ppc64le.tar.gz
