Cannot edit some menu items

Bug Description

I can't edit some menu items whereas I can edit some others. I can't figure how it is determined that one position can or cannot be edited. For example, now I'm unable to edit Firefox entry, but I can view properties of the Thunderbird one.

Ubuntu: Hardy 8.04
alacarte: 0.11.5-0ubuntu1.1

For example, Firefox. But it has happened before, to many different ones.

What do You mean by a "test case"? I am also unable now to test it against Jaunty as I have only Hardy installed (and I won't be able to try Jaunty before my exams end).

could you describe easy steps which lead to a non working change?

The problem is, I don't know how to reproduce it. It just happened - I tried to get to Firefox properties and I couldn't. I don't know how to check what's causing it.

Maybe I should check permissions of some files? I don't know, I'm a bit confused.

OK, maybe it'll help. I run alacarte from the command line and when I click "Properties" on Firefox icon, I get this:

(gnome-desktop-item-edit:7970): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_model_get_iter_first: assertion `GTK_IS_TREE_MODEL (tree_model)' failed
**
** ERROR:(panel-ditem-editor.c:757):panel_ditem_editor_setup_ui: code should not be reached
