Bug Description

When adding a new entry to the application menu via alacarte, it's specified icon is processed incorrectly. Namely, it's extension is ommited. For example, if the icon's name is "foo.png", then the program creates a desctop entry with Icon set to "foo" instead of "foo.png".

Yes I too have just encountered this. It was very frustrating to find the cause, and after hours of searching came across the missing ".png" extension.

Ubuntu 14.04, alacarte 3.10.0-1: After the menu entry has been added with alacarte, it is necessary to edit the .desktop file manually to reinsert the extension for the filename of the icon.

[SOLVED]
I have the same issue with alacarte 3.10.0-1ubuntu2 in Ubuntu 14.04.
I modified the alecarte source as explained in attachment file.

This has been fixed upstream in commit d31ce6b696cdae0e28aca49e0c8887b450114780, from release 3.11.91.

I've also attached the patch of the commit (which applies cleanly to the 3.10.0 code).
