Bug Description

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Sound playback from youtube and web-browser produces really bad sound. This happens in Natty (Ubuntu 11.04). Sound in Ubuntu 10.10 is OK.

Here is an example sound track
http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/14861

The attached .ogg file will let you hear the result.

This computer has two sound cards. I have tested the sound with both cards and the result is the same. All web-apps produce bad audio.

I use 64bit Flash from ppa:sevenmachines/flash.
Ref: http://askubuntu.com/questions/33445/flash-player-for-11-04-64bit

$ dpkg -l | grep -i flash
ii flashplugin64-installer 10.3.162.29-0ubuntu0~sevenmachines3 Adobe Flash Player plugin 64 bit

$ lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
06:01.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB0400 Audigy2 Value

Notice:
Local audio files (music .mp3, .flac, etc.) play right. Local audio such as local music files play 100% OK.

For audio-recording I use https://launchpad.net/audio-recorder (the best one)

Hello.
Here is the requested pulseverbose.log file.

Audio from Vimeo.com and Youtube.com is very good now.

Sound is very bad on:
http://blip.tv/file/1929242 and
http://blip.tv/file/4962727

While these play very cleanly and well:
http://blip.tv/file/4955316 and
http://blip.tv/file/4880045

Sound is also distorted on *all* content from:
http://magnatune.com and http://www.jamendo.com

I use 64bit Flash from ppa:sevenmachines/flash.
Ref: http://askubuntu.com/questions/33445/flash-player-for-11-04-64bit

$ dpkg -l | grep -i flash
ii flashplugin64-installer 10.3.162.29-0ubuntu0~sevenmachines3 Adobe Flash Player plugin 64 bit

So nothing was played through PulseAudio during the time you logged, but when I play something from jamendo.com (I'm on i386), it plays through PulseAudio. Maybe this is something wrong with Flash then?

affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) → adobe-flashplugin (Ubuntu)

This is probably a dupe of #727064

Could you please check if your symptoms are similar to that bug, and mark it as a dupe if they are?

Thanks.

Re-hello,
It's probably a Flash-issue.
I un-installed 64bit Flash. Replaced it with 32bit Flash (+ its nspluginwrapper) and sound it is. It now plays all audio well, Magnatune.com and Jamendo.com included. Alles in Ordnung ist. All is good now.

Please see step 6c) of this guide to install/uninstall 32 or 64bit Flash the right way ;-)
http://www.futuredesktop.org/#step6c

$ dpkg -l | grep -i flash
ii flashplugin-installer 10.2.153.1ubuntu1 Adobe Flash Player plugin installer
ii flashplugin-nonfree 10.2.153.1ubuntu1 Adobe Flash Player plugin installer (transitional package)

BTW: The fix-flash.sh script mensioned by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adobe-flashplugin/+bug/727064 did not work on my 64bit Flash. The libflashplayer.so did not load after the script massacred it.

Thanks.
