Bug Description

Binary package hint: adobe-flashplugin

Versions affected: All Flash Player for Linux versions, tested up to 10.0.32.18.

Issue Summary:
Flash Player v10 for Linux supports capture from video devices (primarily Webcams) using either the V4L1 or V4L2 API. In testing a Webcam capture application, I discovered that images captured from several Logitech Webcams looked terrible.

The same webcams are capable of capturing images at full resolution using Cheese or guvcview, as well using the same Flash applet on a Mac or Windows system.

This same limitation does not apply to V4L1 devices. A valid workaround has been documented, to use the Flashcam tool (v4l2 -> v4l1 translation tool) to show Flash the same camera, but via a V4L1 interface.

Disclaimer:
I understand that this is Adobe's issue to fix. I am documenting it on Launchpad so that others can be aware of this limitation, which is both surprising and severe.

I am hoping that increased exposure and community pressure will help bring this bug to Adobe's attention and get it fixed sooner.

This bug is documented in Adobe's bug tracker system as FP-2138: http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-2138
