Bug Description

Please include Adobe Reader Asian font packs with Ubuntu acroread package,
to enable viewing of some Asian PDF documents.

As of acroread/9.5.4-1quantal1, those fontpacks are still not included.

The font packs can be downloaded from here: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.1/misc/
or from the links provided by mayagupt in bug comment #2: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acroread/+bug/513561/comments/2

Original bug description:

Cannot read Chinese font in Adobe Reader 9

As title, I cannot read the Chinese font in Adobe Reader 9 which you've just published to the software center. I've removed the older version Reader 8, although it can support this function. The Adobe website seems not to open the Asian font support for this version yet. Please help deal with this issue.

Hi, a new acroread release (0.9.4) is available for update, could you give it a try and tell us if the problem persists?
If you still have this bug please set back the status to "new"
thanks

In the meantime, one way around this problem is to use the PDF viewer built in to Firefox.

IMHO, it's better to use a standalone PDF viewer like evince.

Agreed. But from experience, there are cases where FF works when evince
and xpdf fail to display CJKV PDF. FF currently seems to be the more
robust solution.

Interesting; what PDF library does Firefox use?
