Bug Description

I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed. I have acroread v 9.5.5 installed. I have installed ttf-mscorefonts-installer.

I have many PDF documents that use TimesNewRoman and other fonts that acroread has trouble rendering. In acroread, if I select File -> Properties and then select the Fonts tab, I see comments like this: Arial, type: TrueType, Encoding: Ansi, Actual Font: Adobe Sans MM, Actual Font type: Type 1. Below the previous comment is this: Arial (Embedded), Type: TrueType (CID), Encoding: Identity-H. These comments are identical for TimesNewRoman. Not only is it a problem on the screen, but printing is almost as bad.

The PDFs in question, look fine from within Firefox or when I use Document Viewer. However, I prefer acroread for various other reasons.

I have the following: /usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts/ ....

I have logged in/out, I have tried > sudo fc-cache -fv. Nothing seems to work and I can not find this particular question asked and answered anywhere on the web.

Is there a setup file for acroread that needs edits? What else can I do?

Thanks

The Linux version of Acrobat Reader, proprietary software, was killed by Adobe years ago, and went unmaintained since 2013. There is no point in filing bug reports if we can’t do anything about closed software.
