Bug Description

Once a week I get a message:-

/etc/cron.daily/logrotate:
acpid: can't open /proc/acpi/event: Device or resource busy
error: error running postrotate script for /var/log/acpid
run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/logrotate exited with return code 1

If I try to open /proc/acpi/event I get

/proc/acpi/event: Device or resource busy

lsof /proc/acpi/event gives:-

COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE NODE NAME
hald-addo 4669 haldaemon 4r REG 0,3 0 4026532108 /proc/acpi/event

I am using Dapper on dual opteron.
2.6.15-25-amd64-k8

Same during a dist-upgrade to Edgy. acpid held up ubuntu-desktop saying acpid: can't open /proc/acpi/event.

Running /etc/init.d/acpid stop and then /etc/init.d/acpid start returned the same message. Don't know if this is regular or not, but sudoer and root can't delete /proc/acpi/event, even after it is 'stopped'. A cat of /proc/acpi/event shows that it doesn't change.

Was able to bypass the error by killing the acpi process.

I have what I think is a related problem.

I also got messages like those above when I upgraded to Edgy. I found a message posted about this (sorry, forgot where) which suggested doing this:

sudo /etc/init.d/acpid stop
sudo killall hald

then finish the install.

this worked. but I keep getting messages about /proc/acpi/event being busy. They seem to be solvable
when I do this:

sudo /etc/init.d/acpid stop
sudo killall hald
sudo /etc/init.d/acpid restart

this works until the next x session starts - also I don't know
what this is doing to hald's functionality.

good luck

Hi,

I thought this bug had been marked as fixed in 2007.

Ok, Thank you. I'm marking this as fixed.

Anyway, I've long seen what appears to be fixed behaviour (since Feisty...)

thanks for the follow up though.
