When in 11.10 nvidia proprietary drivers were enabled, disabled nvidia drivers and display looked blurry, then changed display adapter drivers to post version nvidia proprietary and rebooted... now the brightness changes sometimes... using the f1 and f2 keys shows the brightness bar changing, but the brightness only changes sometimes (viewing the desktop initially upon startup, but not when running applications such as firefox/chrome)

I have similar issues (macbook pro 5,3):
when I start with lower brightness (on battery for example) the brightness up (f2) control works fine. turning brightness down however (f1) appears to work while holding it down, but then 'resets' to full brightness when the key is released.

running latest 12.04 updates as of today (2012.04.14)
