Bug Description

Suspend or sleeping mode turns screen to black with OS Ubuntu 11.10 on a Asus K72F laptop and Asus k54ly (at least we know about these two) and can not wake up again.
Harddisk indicator does not turn off.
Also when I use the key combination Fn + Z <F1> the same happens.
The only solution is to push the power button and start up the the laptop again.
the screen stays black.

it's really easy to reproduce the event, you just have to suspend the system or even just close the lid

the bug is probably caused by amd proprietary drivers

my former comment is totally wrong. sleep and hibernation work on 10.04 and 10.10 when the proprietary drivers are not activated (and the video quality is really bad), but this walkaround does not work on 11.04 and so i suppose it won't work on 11.10 either.

This happens on my Asus A53Z as well... I have never successfully "awaken" from suspend. (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS)
