Bug Description

I'd like to create a bug from the OP's question (#156986) as I'm experiencing the same problem. The issue was avoided by using an older Ubuntu version but remains a problem with 11.04.

Original post below
----------------------------------------------------------

I've recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 onto a eMachine ER1402 Desktop.

I cannot get the system to properly shutdown or restart, whenever I select one of these the screen goes purple/grey-ish and just hangs. I'm quite new to using a linux os so not really sure how to start debugging this.

Just to note, the logout option works fine, Hibernate and suspend results in the system hanging.

I have tried using the terminal command sudo -h shutdown now, but it results in the same hanging behavour.

Thanks,

Chris.

Exactly the same problem for me too.

Brand new. 1 partition. Boots fine from being turned off. Runs everything well.

Just can't shutdown, restart, hibernate, etc. From either GUI or terminal.

Same problem here. Unable to shut down by any method except by power supply. Restarts automatically on reconnection. Using Kubuntu 11.04.

My Acer Revo 3600 (same manufacturer very similar spec) takes around 5 mins to shutdown but does eventually. Could this be related?

Something about the same.
I am not able to shutdown or restart properly without switching acpi off.
When I switch it off, strange things happen.
Gnome shuts down and strangely I find myself in the recovery-start-up-menu which allows me to chose between normal start-up, start-up with checking the file system and so on.
I'm Using an Acer 8930G and Ubuntu 11.04.
Btw: Hibernating works with acpi on.
