Bug Description

Binary package hint: acpi

I use Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex). When I turn my computer on, the battery state is usually reported correctly. When it has been on for some time (typically about half an hour, but varies), the battery state can suddenly not be read anymore (as reported by gnome-power-manager).

cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state reports "present: no".
cat /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/ADP1/state reports "state: off-line" even if it is plugged in.

I have not been able to figure out exactly what triggers this, but it seems to happen every time I leave my computer on for more than a few minutes. Unplugging or plugging in the AC adapter doesn't help.
