Bug Description

I think we need more info on your hardware.

Mine works almost perfectly:
the screen brightness increases or decreases as wanted, but the popup notification is late to update the progress bar, and after a few increases/decrease, it get so confused it stops updating, and even stay visible for a long time, before disappearing, and then you cannot get it back...

if I blacklist video module:
- brightness hotkeys and gnome-applet work but in a strange way... more or less as U wrote before.
- I can't restore brightness if I set it to lower value
- if I set brightness to max value LCD brightness isn't at 100%.

So it's better with video module NOT blacklisted.

Hi,

I have the same problem with my HP 6730s.

Pressing Fn/F7 Fn/F8, the icon on the screen goes up and down, but brightness doesn't change. I noticed that the brightness value in /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/DD04/brightness changes when I press these combination of buttons.

I installed Ubuntu 8.10 64bit

I confirm the same kind of issue on my DELL 6730s :

* Impossible to control the backlight with the luminosity applet (even when I manage to have it slide, the luminosity doesn't change)

* More annoying :
               - when I remove the AC cord, the luminosity increases instead of diminishing,
               - when I plug the AC again, the luminosity decreases (I wonder if I even have the backlight ON)

... Too bad for my first time on Linux, I found it great sofar, but such a problem makes it hard to use !
