Bug Description
Hi,
I am not sure this is the right package (acpi-support) to attach this to, but I do think that ACPI events are linked to this package.
Nevertheless...
I have a Dell C600 laptop, upgraded from 6.06 (which was a fresh install) to Edgy with the update-manager (Oct. 13). The packages are up to date as of Oct. 17 13:30 GMT with a dist-upgrade. The bug was there since the upgrade to Edgy.
Whenever I close the lid, X dies and comes back to the GDM login screen. Whenever I open the lid, X dies again. All in all, X dies at every lid event...
As all Gnome processes are not always gone, Gnome does not restart successfully every time I login again. But this is another issue altogether.
Changing closed lid actions in the gnome-power-manager from blank screen to do nothing do not change the results.
syslog does not tell me anything.
Xorg.log tells me this about the failed X:

Fatal server error:

I am ready to provide any other file, config, log, info as requested, as well as any test, if needed.
This is coming close to release date, I hope that something can be done, thanks for Ubuntu!
